What is Lex Freedom

[edit | edit source]

Lex Freedom is a theoretical framework for the reform of education proposed for universal adoption around the world.

The original framework emerged during the discussion of the Round Table of Education (2022) that grouped preeminent experts in free education in Poland. It was also received with praise outside Poland.

The resulting education law may in theory be compressed to a single-page document. It departs from an expensive and inefficient system of command-and-control. Instead, it relies on student passions, and innovative energy of all the actors of the educational ecosystem.

Three pillars of education

[edit | edit source]

The education system can thrive if only three principles are ensured:

  1. Non-coercive education: The law stipulates a ban on all forms of coercion in learning along the Fundamental Law of Learning
  2. School vouchers: Public investment in young brains can provide high returns. The best insurance of investment quality is the voluntary nature of learning driven by passions
  3. Minimal disruption: The system of public schools forms an elaborate network of dependencies and habits that cannot change overnight. For that reason, minimum disruption can be ensured by leaving the system in place, and public schools in hands of local authority.

The ecosystem

[edit | edit source]

There is only one factor that changes overnight due to Lex Freedom. It is an instant ban on coercion. All unhappy students can instantly remedy their dissatisfaction by voluntary change to their schedules, methods, pace, and plans (see: Declaration of Education Emancipation). Voluntary change will bring no negative consequences to the student. Student decision will initiate the evolution of the system towards rational redistribution of resources. Student decision will inspire teachers to change their methods, principals to change their vision, and school owners to change their strategies. The entire optimization process will minimize cost for maximum student satisfaction.

Disclaimer

[edit | edit source]

This is an unofficial formulation of Lex Freedom, whose official version, known in Polish as "Lex Wolnosc" was written down by Dr Borys Binkowski. The present version is aimed at providing a systems theory view of the reform. It should make it easier to understand why the law is guaranteed to be simple and efficient. It derives is theoretical framework from neuroscience (freedom of learning), and economics (financing education).
